For
Businesses

Your business is competing to be the best in your field, which means you need to appear professional, competent, reliable and trustworthy.

You think that requires the use of jargon, clichés, and a personality transplant.

In fact, you don't need any of those at all. What you really need to do is engage your customer.

Whether you're creating your copy yourself or hiring a professional writer, consistent, easy-to-read text that flows without distracting errors is a must if you want customers to choose you over your competitors.

Why do I need an editor/proofreader?

As a business, I know you produce thousands of words a day writing content that may not be hitting the mark when you have so many other things dividing your attention.

Ensuring your message is clear, consistent and able to deliver your desired outcome is key to its success.

Inaccuracies, inconsistencies and errors in your copy can damage your reputation and credibility, costing you customers, time and money.

No job is too large or too small.

Areas I can help you with include:

  • Web copy

  • Newsletters and emails

  • Social posts, blogs and articles

  • Brochures, flyers and leaflets

  • Advertisements

  • Magazine articles

  • Internal communications, documents and presentations

  • Instruction guides and manuals

  • Restaurant menus

Please note: This is not an exhaustive list. If you have a project not listed, please contact me to discuss your requirements.

Services

Proofreading (from £15 per 1,000 words)

When you need to check for distracting errors and ensure clarity, a proofread can put the final polish on your copy.

This is the last time anyone will check your work for any spelling, punctuation and grammar errors before it goes for printing or publishing. Therefore, this is a stage you are advised not to miss.

My proofreading service involves checking for:

  • Spelling mistakes

  • Grammatical errors

  • Typos

  • Punctuation problems

  • Correct use of vocabulary

  • Inconsistencies

  • Redundancies and filler words

  • Capitalisation confusion

  • Missing words or duplications

  • Certain formatting issues

  • Widows and orphans

  • Ladders and rivers

  • Table, figure and image discrepancies

  • Correctly connected hyperlinks and URLs

'Hayley is great; friendly, professional and with an eye for detail that really is excellent. As well as having the skillset you'd expect from an experienced proofreader, she has an innate ability to view text from the layperson's point of view and put herself in the shoes of the reader – a great skill to have if you want your documentation to be clear and easily understood.'

Proof-editing (from £21 per 1,000 words)

This is a hybrid service that incorporates proofreading with some light editing.

Businesses often find this service beneficial as time and money constraints don't allow for them to be done individually.

This service includes all of the proofreading checks as above, along with some suggestions and corrections that go beyond the scope of just proofreading.

This may include, but is not limited to:

  • Some minor rewording to improve clarity and word choice

  • Swapping paragraphs or passages around to improve the flow

  • Changing sentence structure and length

It involves a more thorough edit of your work, but you will always have the option to decline any changes I make.

I'll keep to any style guide, tone of voice, point of view, etc. and use your approach so your voice is never removed from your writing.

What's included?

With both services, you'll receive:

  • Professionally edited copy by a friendly and approachable editor

Because who doesn't want that?

I provide kind but constructive feedback allowing you to feel supported and encouraged to achieve greater results from your writing.

  • A tailor-made style sheet

An invaluable guide containing all the editorial decisions made throughout the project so you can keep consistency across all your copy.

As they're editable, you can add, remove and change elements as you/your business grows.

You can also hand them out to employees so anyone writing on your behalf remains consistent with your company and brand identity.

  • Regular updates and open communication throughout the project

Working with me means we're working as a team.

I'll keep you updated with how things are coming along, and you can contact me with any questions you may have.

  • 10% off your next edit with me

I like to show my appreciation for repeat clients.

So, as a 'thank you' for coming back, I offer a discount for those wishing to work with me again.
