Proofreading
Your final polish before publishing
Proofreading is the last step of the editing process before your book goes out into the world. I’ll catch lingering typos, grammar slips and formatting inconsistencies so your hard work shines without distraction.
'Those amendments were extremely helpful and have helped to improve the book immeasurably.'
— Self-published middle grade author
What is proofreading?
Proofreading is the very last step of the publishing process before it's signed off and published for your readers. All the substantial changes should have been addressed through earlier rounds of editing; this is about quality control.

Once your book has been typeset/formatted, proofreading checks for any lingering defintive errors, such as typos or missing punctuation, or those introduced during formatting, such as layout issues. Publishing a polished manuscript reduces the potential bad reviews and increases your reputation.
Who it’s for
Writers who’ve completed editing and are looking for a clean, professional finish before printing or publishing.
What you get
My proofreading service looks for definitive errors, including:
-
Consistency in text and formatting
-
Correct use of vocabulary
-
Style, spelling, punctuation and grammar issues
-
Capitalisation and hyphenation use

You'll also get:

-
A custom style sheet detailing all the editorial decisions made to keep your manuscript consistent
-
A global author queries sheet for queries or fixes that appear throughout

Typical duration: 2–3 weeks (depending on the length and complexity of the manuscript)

And if that wasn’t enough... I'll proofread your cover and blurb for free before you send it to your printer!
How it works

1
You send your manuscript at least 24 hours before the proofread is due to commence. This allows me to ensure there are no issues opening it and work can start as planned.
2
I read through your manuscript, leaving marks for where to insert or delete, along with comments as appropriate. I'll provide you with a weekly update and query anything I'm unsure on.
3
I return your proofread copy so you can see all the insertions, deletions and suggestions, along with a custom style sheet and global author queries (if applicable).
4
You review the proofread manuscript, accepting, rejecting or amending as appropriate, leaving you with a polished manuscript ready to publish.
