Combined Line and Copyediting

Bring polish, precision and clarity to every line

If your story is solid but your sentences feel wobbly, line and copyediting brings it all into sharp focus. I’ll fine-tune your prose for flow, tone and readability without losing your voice.

'You really made the story shine. I just finished reviewing your comments and loved your edits. I've applied your recommendations throughout.'

— Self-published children's author

What is a combined line and copyedit?

Line editing is all about improving flow, readability and engagement, whilst copyediting looks at the technicalities, such as accuracy, consistency and grammar.

Many editors will offer these as individual services but, for the average independent author, this adds time and cost to that they just don't have, adding friction to their ability to publish. I also find it extremely rare that the two services don't overlap (if a sentence or paragraph is out of sequence, it's got to move, right?).

My combined line and copyedit service is all about providing your readers with a smoother more engaging experience without the distractions of inaccuracies and consistency issues.

Who it’s for

Writers who’ve already worked on big-picture edits and want help refining their prose, line by line, sentence by sentence, word by word.

What you get

My deep line-by-line edit of your manuscript looks for many things, including:

  • Inconsistency in text and formatting

  • Redundancies and filler words

  • Clichés and misused words

  • Appropriate dialogue to character

  • A global author queries sheet for queries or fixes that appear throughout

And if that wasn’t enough... I'll proofread your cover and blurb for free before you send it to your printer!

* Prices are based on manuscripts of 50,000 words and over. For short stories and children's books, please contact me for a tailored quote.

How it works

Background.png

1

You send your manuscript at least 24 hours before the edit is due to commence. This allows me to ensure there are no issues opening it and work can start as planned.

2

I complete an intense read-through of your manuscript, making direct changes and leaving comments as appropriate. I'll provide you with a weekly update and query anything I'm unsure on.

3

I return your track-changes copy so you can see all the insertions, deletions and suggestions, along with a custom style sheet and global author queries (if applicable).

4

You review the edited manuscript, accepting, rejecting or amending any direct change or suggestion as you see fit, leaving you with a cleaner, sharper version of your book.
